Rilakkuma’s Return to the Small Screen

In a surprise move, the official Rilakkuma account on X (formerly Twitter) announced that the beloved character will be getting a new anime series. The big news came on a Sunday, sending fans into a frenzy. This is not the first time Rilakkuma has charmed the small screen, but this time it’s different.

A New Collaboration with Production I.G.

The anime series, which is being produced by Production I.G, the animation studio behind the hit film "Ajin: Demi.-to Kizuna" and the series "Vampire Hunter D", is set to be a new adventure for Rilakkuma. The studio has a reputation for pushing the boundaries of animation, and fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to see what they will bring to the table.

A Star-Studded Team

The series will be helmed by Yoshiyuki Itazu, the director of the acclaimed "King of Thorn" and "Appleseed" films, and also features a supporting cast of industry veterans. Chiyo Morita, a key animator on the Academy Award-winning film "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya", will be responsible for the series’ character design. Isumi Hirose, known for his work on "Appleseed" and "Wolf’s Rain", will oversee the concept art. Main animator Maiko Nogami, editor Jun’ichi Uematsu, and operator Hiroshi Tanaka round out the impressive team.

A Musical Treat

The anime’s theme song, "stay with me" by YOASOBI’s vocalists, Lilo & Hikasa, adds to the excitement. The song promises to be a catchy and emotive anthem that will have fans singing along.

The Birth of Rilakkuma

Rilakkuma was created in 2003 by Akira Kondo. Since then, the character has become a beloved favorite around the world. In 2019, Netflix released the series "Rilakkuma and Kaoru" (also known as "From Rilakkuma to Kaa-chan"), followed by the cadet anime series "Rilakkuma’s Park Adventure" in 2022.
