The Birth of "No More Mudan Saisei AI"

On October 15th, a group of Japanese voice actors, led by Ryūsei Nakao, announced the establishment of "No More Mudan Saisei AI," a new organization aimed at preventing the misuse of generative AI technology. The group’s first video, "vol.1," was released on October 21st, featuring six voice actors discussing their thoughts on the use of AI-generated voices.

Concerns Over AI-Generated Voices

The 6-minute video features voice actors Yamadera Kōichi, Sakamoto Chika, Kanai Mika, Seki Toshiko, Kujira, and Nakao Ryūsei sharing their concerns about the use of AI-generated voices. While some, like Seki and Kujira, emphasized the issue of intellectual property rights and the fact that their voices are being used without their consent, others, like Yamadera and Nakao, took a different approach.

The Ethical Dilemma of AI Generation Technology

Yamadera pointed out that the technology has the potential to be used for personal enjoyment by fans and creators, but warned that commercialization or mass publication on social media could raise concerns. Nakao, on the other hand, shared a personal anecdote about a friend who lost the use of their own voice due to a serious illness and the heartbreak that comes with it. He emphasized that the value of human creativity must be respected.

A Divided Stance

The six voice actors who appeared in the latest "No More Mudan Saisei AI" video seem to hold diverse opinions on the use of AI generation technology. While they recognize the potential benefits, they also acknowledge the risks of commercialization and the potential loss of value. Unfortunately, as of this writing, no concrete measures have been taken to protect the rights of voice actors and their work.
