Drecom Media’s Upcoming Light Novel Series: Blade & Bastard

In a recent announcement, Drecom Media revealed that their light novel series, Blade & Bastard, will be animated. As part of the exciting news, a teaser video and visual were released, sending fans into a frenzy. The series, written by Kumo Kagyu and illustrated by so-bin, is set to launch in 2022.

The Story Behind the Souls

The story revolves around Iarumas, a powerful sorcerer who has discovered the ability to revive the dead. However, his method of revitalization is far from gentle, as he only brings back the spirits of those who have died in the most brutal and gory ways. As the last surviving member of a group that was massacred, Iarumas sets out to uncover the secrets of his own past, navigating treacherous dungeons, battling monstrous creatures, and facing the very real possibility of eternal damnation.

The Creators’ Vision

Kumo Kagyu, the author, and so-bin, the illustrator, share a unique vision for this dark fantasy series. "I wanted to create a world where the protagonist is not a hero, but a complex and multifaceted character who walks the fine line between morality and mortality," says Kagyu. so-bin adds, "I’ve tried to incorporate subtle hints of the surreal and the bizarre, blending fantasy and horror elements to create a world that’s both familiar and yet, unsettlingly foreign."

The Road to Publication

Blade & Bastard has already made waves in the Japanese market, with the light novel’s first four volumes released in October. The series has also gained the attention of global publishers, with Yen Press acquiring the rights to release the series in English, starting with the first volume on October 15th.

The Magic of Light Novels

Light novels, a staple of Japanese popular culture, have gained significant traction worldwide, with many series being adapted into anime, manga, and even film. The success of Blade & Bastard is just the latest example of this phenomenon, demonstrating the enduring appeal of these captivating stories.
