Harvey Award: A Celebration of Manga Excellence

The Best in Manga: Awarding Excellence

Yesterday, the Harvey Awards, a prestigious prize that recognizes outstanding achievements in the world of comic books and sequential art, announced its winners at the New York Comic Con. Among the many talented recipients, one notable winner stood out: mangaka Ryou Fujisaki’s "Delicious in Dungeon" (, "Danchou no Ryoufuu Nanboku"), published by Yen Press, took home the top prize in the Best Manga category.

The Ceremony
Thomas McAuley, editor-in-chief of Yen Press, accepted the award on behalf of Ryou Fujisaki, who was unable to attend. In a statement read aloud, Fujisaki expressed gratitude for the award, citing it as inspiration for future projects and motivation to continue creating. The event also honored the late Mitsuhiro Iwaoka, a beloved manga artist, as one of the new members of the Hall of Fame.

Nominees and Winners
Other notable works nominated in the Best Manga category included "Henkaku ga Shinda Natsu" by Naoki Umesawa, "Toritari Hatsujou no Ate" by Takahashi Tetsuya, "Furare no Tabi no Sotogatari" by Yamada Kain and Abe Shun, and "Kage" by Tanabe Gou. Additionally, "Orukōrera in Detention" by Masahiro Ito, H.P. Lovecraft’s "At the Mountains of Madness" ( translated into Japanese as ""), and Taiyō Takeuchi’s work "Berzerk" received nods in the category.

The Journey of Excellence
The Harvey Awards, established in 1988, have been recognizing exceptional works in the world of comics and sequential art for over three decades. This year’s ceremony marked an exciting milestone, as the organization expanded its Best Manga category in 2018. The first-ever winner was "Kodoku to Rezubian no Taiken" by Erika Kawai. Subsequent winners have included "Boku no Hīrō Akademi" by Yūji Konda (2019), "Toritari Hatsujou no Ate" by Takahashi Tetsuya (2020), and "Chensōman" by Fuminari Futago (2021-2023).
