Japanese manga artist Toshinori Sogabe, known for his eclectic and often adult-oriented works, has announced that his latest series, Yankee JK Kuzuhana-chan, will be going on hiatus due to health reasons. The series, which debuted in Shōnen Champion magazine in March 2020, will resume serialization in the 49th issue on November 7, 2023.

The Series in a Glimpse

Yorking the world of high school romance and raunchy humor, Yankee JK revolves around Saotome, the sole male student at an all-girls high school, and his tumultuous relationship with delinquent Hanako Kuzuryū. The series has garnered a significant following among fans of the "slightly erotic school romantic comedy" genre.

Sogabe’s Prolific Career

This news comes as a surprise to fans of the prolific artist, who has been involved in multiple projects outside of Yankee JK. Sogabe has previously launched several popular series, including the sci-fi horror Mahō Shōjo Site Sept, the spin-off of Kentarō Satō’s Magical Girl Site manga, and the manga adaptation of Ichiro Sakaki’s Scrapped Princess novels. His 2005 series Amaenaideyo!! also inspired a 13-episode anime adaptation, which received a second season in 2006.

What’s Next for Sogabe?

Although the exact nature of Sogabe’s health concerns remains unclear, fans can expect the return of Yankee JK in November 2023. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Sogabe’s future projects, which are likely to bring more excitement and surprises to the world of manga and anime.
